For first timers and at your age- I’d recommend going with a friend or finding a concierge service so you have ppl who know of your whereabouts while there and that you can contact in case of an emergency

The costume bottoms are usually tied around the neck or just sit on the waist so depending on the option you choose you can just pull them up and down like you would pants/underwear

So if you create your own costume - you won’t be able to join a band as it’s a cultural competition that has several aspects such as judging points / fenced off areas for masqueraders only Also the masqueraders in the band have paid for their designated costumes and the all inclusive road experience that the band provides such as drinks, food, music and also security to keep non masqueraders out - which is a a way for the troupes/bands to keep this tradition going in an organized way- they need to be funded to do it because costumes, trucks, DJs, food/drinks cost money You can create your own costume and wear it if you want (and stay on the sidelines)but most times ppl do this in hopes to join a band without paying for registration so you would be doing this at your own discretion and knowing that if you try to jump in a band it’s a strong possibility to be ejected by the band’s security Hope that helps.

The bands also offer one day packages as well if you just want to do the one day and not the full on costume

​@Bahamianista I am looking at the Insane Carnival page & have a question regarding the categories. If my friends and I purchase from the different categories, does that make a difference? For example, if I purchased a 2 piece from the Eclectic category and my friend purchases hers from the Whimsical category. Would that mean we would be in separate groups?

@@aprilforbes1441 Hi April, good question. So I'll preface with the fact that the costume parade falls on Emancipation day and is 2 days of consecutive parades (outside of t-shirt mas that is held the last Saturday of July). With that being said, Carnival Monday (when you wear the Monday wear or your own custom Monday wear) you both can stay together the entire parade. Carnival Tuesday (when you wear the full costume), there are parts of the parade where each section has to line up for judging which happens give or take a few times during the parade on Tuesday but you are allowed to mix/find each other and stay together once you pass the judging points which is for the majority of the parade. The bands will announce when to "get into your sections" so if you do choose different sections (Eclectic or Whimsical) you'll have to separate until judging in that portion of the parade is over. I advise finding a spot to meet up after judging points; for example meet each other at the back of the drinks truck or the left side of truck number one or someone carries a hand held flag they can wave in case you can't find each other to serve as a signal. Long answer lol but hope it helps with your decision.
